Shawnee State Forest
Dave Basham, Tom Meeker, & myself went out scouting for a place to have our Pay It Forward gathering in 05
We visited different parks & forest in Kentucky & Ohio, and the best looking facility & country we saw was
at Shawnee State Forest outside of Portsmouth Ohio.

Shawnee State Park is located in Scioto county Ohio in
south central Ohio. The park is 1100 acres situated in the 63,000 acre tract
know as Shawnee Forest. SSP is located about 15 minuets west of Portsmouth Ohio.
Portsmouth is situated on the Ohio River, and is a town of about 22,000 people,
and offers some great dining and shopping, with points of interest such as the
renowned flood wall murals depicting the cities history. This part of Ohio has
some of the best motorcycle riding roads in the state! Just across the river is
Kentucky and more great roads that lead to a couple of nice states parks such as
Carter Caves State Park, and Greenbo State Park. The loop starting at SSP and
going to Carter Caves, Greenbo and returning to SSP is a great day ride of about
140 miles of twisties and scenic views of the Ohio River Valley.
SSP offers a fantastic lodge, camp ground, and cabins at a reasonable price
(considering what you get for your dollar). Also there are a couple of big lakes
with great fishing (stocked with trout and bass), horse back riding, and hiking.
Scioto County Ohio, where southern hospitality begins! Ya gotta love it!
